Drink Mix Highlights
Drink Mix FAQs
What if I use more or less than the serving size?
One level scoop of our drink mix contains 25 grams of carbs, 100 calories, and 167mg of sodium.
Our serving size is 3 scoops from the stand-up pouch, or 1 single-serve sachet; this delivers 75 grams of carbs, 300 calories, and 500mg of sodium.
It is okay to use more scoops or fewer scoops of our drink mix, depending on your goals. If you'd like a lighter and more refreshing mix, consider using 1 or 2 scoops. If you'd like a more concentrated mix with more carbohydrates and sodium, try 4 scoops - just keep in mind the more intense flavor and the increased need for supplemental hydration.
How much water do I mix the Carbs Fuel Sport Drink Mix into?
Carbs Fuel formulated the full serving (3 scoops from the stand-up pouch or 1 single-serve sachet) to be mixed into a 500mL bottle, such as the Carbs Fuel 500mL Tacx Shiva bottle.
This serving may be mixed into a smaller flask or glass, but keep in mind the changes to the osmolality and flavor. You may consider decreasing the number of scoops to accomplish the right concentration. That said, you could continue with the same number of scoops (or more) and ensure you are staying hydrated through another bottle or pack.
You may also mix this serving into a larger bottle, but keep in mind this will make the product more diluted and lighter in flavor. This may be a great opportunity to increase the number of scoops per bottle!
How quickly does the Carbs Fuel Drink Mix dissolve?
We formulated our drink mix to rapidly dissolve in water. Our maltodextrin and Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin are relatively complex forms of carbohydrates and will require vigorous shaking or stirring to fully dissolve. Through vigorous mixing, expect our serving size to be fully dissolved within 5-10 minutes.
Keep in mind, the above expectation is with our full serving size in 500mL of room temperature water in mind. Cold water or less water in relation to the serving size will result in slower mixing.
How to combine the Carbs Fuel Energy Gel with the Carbs Fuel Drink Mix?
Some athletes love drink mix, other athletes love energy gels, and others like using both!
Depending on your carbohydrate and sodium consumption goals, you can use either product alone or in combination.
For example, if your goal is 100g of carbs per hour, you could achieve that through two of our energy gels each hour. Alternatively, you could achieve it through consuming one bottle with 4 scoops of our drink mix each hour.
What is the Original flavor and why doesn't Carbs Fuel offer other flavors?
The original flavor in our sport drink mix is light, smooth, and bright; it is neutral enough for athletes to enjoy consuming in hour 1 and hour 6 of their endurance activity.
We may launch drink mixes of other flavor variations in the future, but we think our original flavor is exceptional. We are focused on delivering a simple and effective product that helps more athletes effectively fuel their sport.
What are the carbohydrate sources in the Carbs Fuel Sport Drink Mix?
The Carbs Fuel Original Sport Drink Mix contains four sources of carbohydrates to reach a 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio.
The four carbohydrate sources are Maltodextrin, Sucrose, Fructose, and Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin (also known as Cluster Dextrin).
We found this blend of carbs to be the best for preventing GI distress, maximizing carbohydrate oxidation, flavor and texture, and ease of mixing.
Why 1:0.8 versus 2:1 Glucose-to-Fructose?
Current research suggests the optimal ratio of glucose and fructose, for maximal carbohydrate uptake and minimal risk of GI issues, is between 2:1 to 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio. As of 2024, current research suggests the 1:0.8 ratio to be the most optimal, however, proper fueling is not black and white. There are numerous other factors to consider that may affect the athlete. Some example factors could be the product's palatability or the athlete's sensitivities to ingredients like preservatives and additives. Carbs Fuel thoughtfully selected a 1:0.8 ratio for the Original Sport Drink Mix, but a 2:1 ratio for its Original 50g Energy Gel.
Why does the Carbs Fuel Sport Drink Mix contain so much sodium?
Carbs Fuel thoughtfully included 500mg of sodium per serving to aid in the replenishment of sodium lost through sweat during exercise.
Sweat loss is very individual, some athletes lose over 1,000mg of sodium per hour, while others lose far less. Carbs Fuel formulated its drink mix to be a suitable all-in-one solution for the majority of athletes.
Should I be consuming other electrolytes such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium?
For most individuals, the body is extremely well regulated in maintaining electrolyte balance. This includes sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, etc. Assuming you have a well-balanced diet, there should not be issues or deficiencies in any of these electrolytes as you body has tight regulation on the concentrations of electrolytes in your body. However, under exercising conditions where sweat rate is high, some of these electrolytes will be lost. Sodium is the primary electrolyte that is lost is sweat. Other electrolytes such as potassium, calcium, magnesium are lost in such minute amounts through sweat that they essentially have no impact on performance. So replacing these other electrolytes are simply not important. This is true unless the activities are so long in duration (perhaps 10+ hours), then some additional supplementation could be considered, but still not necessary in all cases. However, since sodium can be lost in high amounts through sweat, it can be important to replace these during exercise to prevent hyponatremia, which can cause severe deterioration in performance and general function. Consuming electrolytes don't improve performance unless you're simply so deficient then they can help your baseline. but taking more than you need doesn't help in anyway according to the data.
