2026 Bicarb Industry Report

The table above is data gathered from publicly available channels on September 1st, 2026. We found the lowest possible price for each bicarb product, but did not include any promotional discounts they may have been offering. We did our best to accurately represent product details of each brand. This information may be inaccurate and we did not intentionally misrepresent any brand in the table above. We also may not have included every bicarb on the market; if this is the case, we did not intentionally do so, we were unaware of the product's existence. We included brands offering bicarb products made for sport performance in the United States; we intentionally left off products which are not easily available for purchase inside of the United States.

Key findings

Delivery format 

It is evident that there are three major product categories that exist for sodium bicarbonate delivery via oral consumption: powders, capsules, and multi-part systems. There are other minor categories such as gels and solids, but these are not seen as popular options as of yet or have specific use cases. 

• In the powdered category: Flycarb, Nduranz, and OTE offer powdered sodium bicarbonate mixtures that are mixed into water and consumed as a beverage. This is similar to the oldest and traditional method of consuming sodium bicarbonate where sodium bicarbonate purchased from the grocery store is simply mixed into water or juice and consumed directly.

• In the capsule category: Enteric (acid resistant) capsules are offered by many brands such as Carbs Fuel, MNSTRY, Nduranz, Voom, and Pacemaker. These enteric capsules contain one gram of sodium bicarbonate per capsule and are a solution to the issues associated with traditional sodium bicarbonate consumption.

• The multi-part system category: This is a novel format that was pioneered by Maurten and includes a three part system consisting of a bowl, powdered gel mixture, and sodium bicarbonate mini-tablets. In this system, the powdered gel is mixed with water in the bowl to create a thick gel where the sodium bicarbonate mini-tablets are added into. This entire mixture is then consumed. Since Maurten’s introduction of this category, Blank’s Sport Nutrition, Bicarb 3.0, and Bicarb+ followed suit, releasing similar multi-part kits that mimic the Maurten product.

• There are other delivery formats of sodium bicarb including MNSTRY’s Bicarb Gel, which is delivered in the typical gel sachet and designed to be used during exercise and Raceday’s Bicarb Bar that delivers bicarb in a manner that includes a nutritional component (carbohydrate and fat). 

Price

A notable observation among the sodium bicarbonate offerings is the cost per gram of sodium bicarbonate.

• In general the multi-part systems are the most expensive with Maurten leading this segment at $1.46 per gram of bicarb in the 12g serving. However, these multi part systems have been made more affordable by the likes of Blank’s, Bicarb 3.0, and BiCarb+ positioning themselves as middle to low end of the pricing range.

• The powdered category has options that stratify the pricing spectrum with Flycarb being the most expensive in smaller serving sizes, OTE sitting in the middle, and Nduranz being the most affordable.

• Capsules are generally the most affordable category of sodium bicarbonate delivered with the Carbs Fuel 25g Bicarb.

• While not listed, the cheapest still remains traditional sodium bicarbonate consumption where baking soda purchased from grocery stores can be the most affordable way to consume bicarb. However, this traditional method of bicarb consumption comes with significant risk of GI distress and the amount of bicarb delivered into the body is less than what is intended due to premature reaction with stomach acid. 

Considerations

Ease of use & convenience

• Multi-part kits require several steps of mixing and waiting before consumption. This can pose challenges of when and where this method of delivery can be taken (e.g. challenging to be taken in a car while driving and cannot be taken during a long duration race).

• Powdered formats which can be easily mixed into water and consumed quickly are a simple and rapid way to consume bicarb without the need for multi-step preparation.

• Capsules provide a way for bicarb to be consumed during any setting (before or during racing) allowing the greatest flexibility for sodium bicarbonate consumption.

• Additionally, preportioned versus bulk packaging of the bicarb serving removes the risk for miscalculating the bicarb dosage and further simplifies consumption.

• Personal and more subjective convenience factors to consider when comparing the different categories include the tolerance to the taste and texture in the multi-part systems, taste of the powdered bicarb products, and the need to swallow a large amount of capsules to achieve the correct dosage. 

Number of servings

Most bicarb products that are available in the United States are only available to be purchased as multiple servings. The two exceptions to this are the Carbs Fuel Bicarb and Flycarb. Carbs Fuel provides the most accessible way to use bicarb at $2.50 for 15g of bicarb. Flycarb starts at $9.99 per serving.

Legitimacy of delivery method 

While most of these delivery formats (i.e. Maurten Bicarb System and enteric capsules) have human trial and research data to support the claims of delivering the intended dosage of bicarb, some formats do not have the same level of support. While not listed on the spreadsheet, formats such as solids and lotions are still dubious or have been proven to not provide the same benefit.
