Energy Gel FAQs
$2.00 for 50 grams of carbs? What's the catch?
No catch! This is a simple and incredibly effective energy gel.
We know we could charge much more for these gels, but for us to help more athletes effectively fuel their sport, we keep our price as the best carb-to-dollar gel in the world.
We, as athletes, needed a top-quality high carb energy gel that was more affordable, so we made it.
Why 50 grams of carbs?
Depending on the demands of the athlete, consuming 80-120 grams of carbohydrates per hour has been shown to effectively enhance and prolong endurance performance.
Our gels contain 50 grams of carbohydrates in a 2:1 glucose to fructose ratio to support athletes in achieving their fueling goals. More carbs per gel also means less packaging waste, so it is better for the environment too.
What is the Original flavor and why doesn't Carbs Fuel offer other flavors?
The original flavor is bright, sweet, and slightly citrusy; it is neutral enough for athletes to enjoy consuming in hour 1 and hour 6 of their endurance activity.
We may launch products of other flavor variations in the future, but we think our original flavor is exceptional. We are focused on delivering a simple and effective product that helps more athletes effectively fuel their sport.
How many gels should I eat every hour?
Our gel contains 50 grams of carbohydrates. If you are not used to consuming more than 50 grams of carbohydrates per hour, we recommend starting with one gel every 60 minutes.
Gradually work you way towards consuming one gel every 30 minutes as you train your body to be able to consume 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour.
Depending on the intensity and demand of your activity, more or less fueling is required. We recommend listening to your body and how you feel as you increase your carbohydrate intake.
Should I consume this with water?
We suggest to consume our gels with a couple sips of water.
What is the consistency of the Carbs Fuel energy gel?
The Carbs Fuel energy gel has a low viscosity, or thin consistency, thanks to our unique carbohydrate sources and decision to avoid gelling agents.
Why doesn't Carbs Fuel include gelling agents?
We dont use gelling agents like Gellan Gum, Xanthan Gum, or Pectin because we wanted to eliminate the use of any ingredient which could cause stomach problems.
Plus, if it doesn't help your endurance performance, why would we?
Our gels are naturally a great consistency thanks to the carbohydrate volume.
What are the carbohydrate sources in the Carbs Fuel energy gel?
The Carbs Fuel energy gel is a blend of three carbohydrate sources to achieve a 2:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio. The three sources of carbohydrates are maltodextrin, sucrose, and fructose.
Why 2:1 versus 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose?
Current research suggests the optimal ratio of glucose and fructose, for maximal carbohydrate uptake and minimal risk of GI issues, is between 2:1 to 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio. As of 2023, current research suggests the 1:0.8 ratio to be the most optimal, however, proper fueling is not black and white. There are numerous other factors to consider which may affect the athlete. Some example factors could be the product's palatability, or the athlete's sensitivities to ingredients like preservatives, and gelling agents. Carbs Fuel thoughtfully selected a 2:1 ratio, instead of a 1:0.8 ratio, for a couple reasons.
- Some athletes have a greater sensitivity to fructose, when compared to glucose; we believe the 2:1 ratio will allow a wider breadth of athletes to fuel their sport.
- A key aspect to helping more athletes fuel effectively is ensuring it is a product that is palatable and easy to consume. We found the higher fructose concentration in the 1:0.8 ratio created a sweetness profile that was less palatable during our product development. A proper fueling strategy only works if the athlete is excited and able to continue consuming their energy gels late into their activity.
What is the shelf life of a Carbs Fuel gel?
The Carbs Fuel energy gel has a best-by date 24 months past the date of manufacturing. We've achieved a lengthy shelf life by achieving a balance between pH and water activity.
